Victoria Falls Cruise Add-On to your African Safari Trip

Day by day Summary

Daily itinerary for the Victoria Falls Add-on to your African Safari Trip

Day 1 – Depart from Victoria Falls for Binga | Board Lake Kariba Cruise:

Early departure from Victoria Falls to Binga, this journey will take approximately five hours, or start from Hwange with collection at the Dete crossing – approximately two and a half hours from Binga. After turning off the main road at Dete, we make our way through an extremely remote and rural part of the southern Zambezi Escarpment. On arrival, enjoy a refreshing welcome drink and board our riverboat where a light lunch which will be served as we cruise towards the Sengwe Basin.

In the late afternoon, we moor in the mouth of the Sengwe River system – we then head out in the smaller pontoon tender boats to explore this remote area and its stunning scenery, resident hippo and crocodile populations. The Sengwe is famed for its great birding, excellent water birds and many raptors (including the rare Pel’s Fishing Owl and Black Eagle).
We end the day with a relaxing boat cruise with drink in hand back to the main vessel as the sun sets. Dinner is served onboard this evening.

Day 2 – Lake Kariba Cruise:

A light continental breakfast will be served before setting off on our morning activities of game viewing and birding. Or try fishing for the famed Tiger Fish or the indigenous Bream (tilapia) whilst listening out for the Fish Eagle’s cry. We return to the houseboat for a freshen up and lunch on board as we cruise through the Chete Gorge and into the Hondwa Bay.

Our afternoon will be spent in the Hondwa exploring its inlets, sandy beaches and flood plain. In this area, we are likely to see more plains’ game and larger mammals with its open aspect. Evening sundowners and snacks are served as we watch another incredible Kariba sunset before heading back to the main vessel. Dinner this evening, dependant on lake levels, will be a relaxing beach braai (barbeque Zimbabwean style) around a campfire under the African night sky.

Day 3 – Lake Kariba Cruise:

Morning activities as above or an optional guided nature walk of approximately 2 hours before making our way back to the main riverboat and lunch as we cruise onto Elephant Bay.

An afternoon to relax onboard during this 5-6 hour cruise, perhaps a dip in the pool or a siesta? Upon arrival in Elephant Bay, we moor on one of the many islands and set off to explore these new surrounds.

Our last evening sundowner on this majestic inland sea gives us the opportunity to witness an uninterrupted view across the Lake to the mountains of Zambia and probably one of the best sunsets in Africa.

Day 4 – Return to Binga | Depart for either Hwange National Park or Victoria Falls:

We then say goodbye to Binga and begin our journey back to Victoria Falls or to Hwange National Park (drop-off Dete crossing) to continue your African Safari trip or onward journey home.

Add one or two nights relaxing and enjoy the cultural experiences of the Tongaan tribes in Binga at Masumu River Lodge or Kulizwe Marina Lodge.
